Why greeks should be proud for being greeks

Em uma aula de fluência em inglês foi pedido que falássemos sobre um tema livre.
Claro que logo veio-me à cabeça falar sobre algo bem grego que pudesse passar aos meus colegas.
Coloquei em Power point e ficou divertido.

Why greeks should be proud for being greeks?
(something to learn by heart because it comes from the hurt)

*Because there’s no way to explain to foreigners what “kapsoura” is. (burning desire for someone)
.Is a slang word and it means strong erotic passion, a burning desire for someone.
.It comes from the verb καιω = to burn

*Because 97% of the star’s names are greek

*Because when others created wars, we created games to stop wars

*Because we do not share the cost of petrol with those we take in our cars

*Because we gave birth to Democracy

*Because we invented theatre

*Because Socrates, Pluto and Aristotle were greek and we still quote from them.

*Because the word FILOTIMO doesn’t exist in any other language
. It’s a synonym of honor, helping someone because it’s a shame not to.
.And just because filotimo represents a way of life for greeks it includes ideas and virtues such as honor, justice, courage, dignity, pride, self sacrifice, respect, freedom, gratitude and hospitality.

*Because we dance when we are sad and we are happy

*Because we are not ashamed to cry

*Because we never use ketchup or mayonnaise with our food
. It tastes damn good without it.

*Because to greeks, family is still somethin valuable

*Because we never visit others with empty hands.
.It is considered polite not to appear with empty hands. You can buy something like sweets, a bottle of wine or flowers. The hostess will offer the sweet after the food so that everybody will try it and is very common that everybody brings sweets, so you finish your meal with 5 or 6 kinds of cakes waiting for you. Flowers are immediately decorated in vase as a sign of gratitude. Wine is served during the meal and when you clink glasses you say “Yamas” that means “Cheers” in greek.

. Because “Flirting” is our national hobby
Greece came first on Thrillist’s list, showing that the financial crisis and the country’s overall situation has not affected Greek’s confidence levels. Not only has Athens been named world’s most flirtatious city  but Greece as a country was dubbed the most sexually active nation.

*Because nights in Greece finish in the morning

*Because we take our coffee slowly and not in “ shots”.

( I gave you only some examples but you can live all these travelling to Greece  or being a greek’s friend)
